I have a friend in R.S. near Live oak. Power has been our for several days but phone is working. The immediate area around him is clear. From the junction of Live oak and 18 looking towards Arrowhead, fire is coming towards running Springs about 8 mi away. he saw a plane dropping retardent on trees in the area. The area around High School seems to be on fire, he thinks a backfire. If anyone has a ? about the area, I will be glad to ask when he calls again.

My question would be if your friend knows anything about the fire around the 330. That seems to be where I've heard anecdotes about it being much closer than 8 miles to Running Springs.
My girlfriend also lives off of Live Oak. She's been looking for new info all day. ANY updates VERY appreciated!
Thanks!

MY friend is now in Big Bear. He tod me that when he left the fire was just about at Manzianita Flats, he estimated about 3 miles to Live Oak. He is also worried about his house. He went through the Town of Running Springs , which he said was deserted except for gas station (open) . He could see no signs of fire there, but did say most of the trees were severly damaged from bark beetles, much more than around his home. Big Bear has normal activity, but people are telling him they may be in jeopardy also.

Courtney,
Thanks for that link! My parents live just off Live Oak on Knollview - lack of RS news is SO frustrating!

No problem. I am relying on that message board for info as the TV coverage of Running Springs is really spotty. I am on the canyon side of Live Oak near Acorn and am quite stressed out. This is my primary residence. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone!

ABC news had a reporter on the phone that said he was at Running Springs and that the fire had jumped Hwy18 heading East towards Big Bear. Said flames were 300 ft high and there were no fire crews able to get in front of it and no air support. That was at about 8:30am west coast time.
Sorry I don't have more information or better news... just trying to pass along what I hear
