Please post if you've got anything.

I would like to be informed of this as well. Forest Falls is my hometown, but I'm at school in Seattle trying my best to find anything out. Anyone?

Latest that I have from the EOC in San Bernardino indicates that while an evacution order is still in place in Forest Falls, the perimeter of the fire is still west of Highway 38.
I do not know the existing conditions today or if there are any changes that would affect the Status of Forest Falls.
Keep Hoping.. Steve

Hi Danielle... Good to hear from you...sorry it's in this forum, but anyway, in case you haven't heard yet, Forest Falls is OK for now and the weather is cooperating. I moved from the canyon in August, but as you know have many friends, and some that have remained there in spite of evacuation order, and report that all is well for now. Hope all is good with you Danielle...and Steve and Rhett...hope this helps Jenny S.

I am also trying to monitor conditions for my family cabin at Forest Home. I just heard an update from the Forest Home Conference hotline for employees. As of noon today, Thursday, October 30, the fire was still burning just North of the Santa Ana River wash. The recording did not report anything further. Last night, the Forest Home Conference Center at www.gospel/com.net/foresthome reported the following on their website: Wednesday, October 29, 2003, 7:00 pm Though the fires are 5-6 miles from Forest Home – Mill Creek Canyon, the smoke blankets the mountain range in an eerie cloud of uncertainty. We remain in waiting. Here are the four critical prayer points: 1. Calm winds 2. An ability to clearly communicate with our guests and staff. 3. Protection for the 24 Christian camps in our mountain range 4. Forest Home Executive management team as they meet twice daily If you are a Forest Home employee – we will gather in Redlands for a voluntary prayer and information meeting on Friday, October 31st. For our employees the RIVER Church is located at 459 E. Highland Ave on the corner of Redlands Blvd and Highland – formerly the Christian Reform Church. We will gather in Fellowship Hall from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Friday to answer any questions and to lift the concerns of our staff, guests and community to the Lord.

Jenny Shaner!!! Wow, who would've thought that we'd get to say hello via the Web...because of a crazy fire?! It was good to see a familiar name on the postings. I hope all's well with you. Things are busy in Seattle, and it's hard to be away when things are uncertain. Thanks for the information. I am pretty optimistic that things will get under control before they hit our canyon, but I guess it's just a waiting game at this point. My biggest frustration is not being able to find any updated active fire maps. Time will tell! ~Danielle

There is a very good map site at geomac.usgs.gov/#You can zoom in on any fire in the country to the street level. My frustration with this site is that I can't find the date it was last updated, but it looks relatively up-to-date. I lived in FF for 8 years; in NY now, but still feel very connected... and very sad for all of SoCal

Of course, if I had read the users' manual, I would have know that the site is updated daily. Here's a quote: ----------------------------------- How it works In order to give fire managers near real-time information, fire perimeter data is updated daily based upon input from incident intelligence sources, GPS data, and infrared (IR) imagery from fixed wing and satellite platforms. The GeoMAC web site allows users in remote locations to manipulate map information displays, zoom in and out to display fire information at various scales and detail, including downloading desired information and printing hard copy for use in fire information and media briefings, dispatch offices and coordination centers. The fire maps also have relational databases in which the user can display information on individual fires such as name of the fire, current acreage, and other fire status information. Karen

Thanks, Karen. I have been using the GEOMac maps as well, but was unsure of how often it was updated. (Ha! When in doubt, read the directions, right?!) Hope all's well in NY!

I have been praying for all of us who call Forest Falls home. That includes the standing ones the four legged, creepy crawlers and two legged. Does anybody know where the fire is or how close it is.
All my relations, Ralph Padilla

Hi - I'm an ex-Forest Falls resident now in Olympia, WA. Another good mapping site is the Calmast site: www.calmast.org/mast/public/default.htmIt was started for mapping the spruce bark beetle infestation, then added the fires when they happened. Its based at ESRI in Redlands who is the nation's biggest mapping software company. ESRI donated the computers and office space to Calmast. A bunch of ESRI employees live in Forest Falls & the surrounding area, including a lot of my friends (Yes, I used to work @ ESRI). I hope everyone stays safe and the weather cooperates. My thoughts are with you all. Barry

arghhhh.... but where the FIRE?? All of these maps seem to look the same as they did yesterday, and one of them looks very threatening -- it would only take a few good gusts to sweep right up that canyon... sorry, just frustrated wondering if the cabin is still there. Karen (Barry Z - do you know Marcelo Villacrez from ESRI?)

Forest Falls and Mountain Home residents were allowed to return home today at 4pm with proof of residence but were told to be ready to go again if/when the Santa Ana winds kick back up next week. That, at least, is good news. Karen
