Maybe this isn't the right time for this, but seeing as though it is Halloween today...I have enough candy at my house in Crestline for 200 kids that will be wasted because I can't give it out tonight. Is there anyone else in this situation who might like to get something together for the kids of the town when we can go back? Maybe have a night to do Halloween over again or something like that? Please email me if you are interested or willing to participate. please put Halloween in the subject line. ashvamp@aol.com

Let me clarify this thread- there has been some misunderstanding- I am not in Crestline right now. I would like to organize something in a few weeks for the kids when people are able to go back to their homes and go back to their lives. I just want to know if anyone else would be willing to participate in a few weeks. If no one wants to do anything I'll just stand on Lake Drive and hand out all my candy by myself.

I'm sure you will get some takers as soon as some of the shock wears off. I live in Chino Hills & just didn't feel comfortable passing out candy tonite. It might sound selfish & I'm sure children don't understand, but sometimes the old saying "There's a time & place for everything" truly has it's place...
You sound like a person with a huge heart - I am certain you will not be alone passing out candy when you choose the date - and if you are - so be it - you are a bigger person for doing it!

I'm just having a bad year. Between death and sicknesses this year every holiday for me has been bittersweet. Every "celebration" has had a sad memory attached to it- mostly of who or what was absent.
I love Halloween and I was decorating my house right before I left. My costume is still hanging on the door and the candy was set out on the table along with my Halloween decorations. I have only been in Crestline a year and a half and Crestline for Halloween last year was the first time in my life I had a good turnout of kids- I live in downtown Crestline and we get so many kids. I was at my parent's place tonight and about ten kids came by. I was just so disappointed.
I have been looking forward to Halloween for months. I keep thinking that other people and children might be feeling the same way and want to do something about it. I mean, does the day it's done really matter or is it the act of giving? I suspect it is the act of giving and that it can be done whenever things get back to normal.
I just don't want to be the only loon out there doing it- but if I have to I will.
