Can ANYONE tell me if the fire is near Lake Dr. and Big Oak Rd? Our Mom & Dad live there. They evacuated and are down the hill, but we're concerned about their home. At approx. 5:00 pm (PST) the fire had damaged homes around Venus and Jupiter Way. That is less than 1/2 mile from their home. That was about 2 1/2 hours ago. Thanks, Paul Gunderson Tulsa, OK

There are some reports that above Goodwin's & Lake Gregory Drive is burning. This is unconfirmed, but two sources have offered this information.

I was wondering if anyone knows if Aldorf Dr or Apline Dr in Crestline have been affected. I am in the military in northern CA and both my and my wife's families live on those streets. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Good luck on finding out about Big Oak Dr. Hope all is well.

Hey Paul,
Unfortunately, I don't have any information related to the fire location in Crestline.... but I did notice that you are many miles away in Oklahoma, and I just wanted to let you know that I understand how hard it is to be far away and not know what is happening.... I actually live in Boston, but grew up in Lake Arrowhead & my family is now in the San Diego area & are being impacted by the fires down there... Please hang in there & know that everyone is doing the best that they can ~ unfortunately, because of the evacuations, it might be hard to get accurate information quickly. My thoughts are with your parents, & I hope that there home is ok....
~ In peace & safety ~

There is supposed to be a force of about 150 fire engines and ground crews in a resistance from Crest Forest to Crestline. They are trying to protect the town, and they are ready to spray down whatever flames are there. There have been reports of fire around Johnnie's Market, but the main focus is to protect the town.

I am not actually in Crestline, but I have been in communication with my dad who has evacuated into Victorville and I thought I would pass on the latest I have learned. My dad has been hanging out at a grocery store by Silverwood Lake that is being used as a staging area by some fire fighters and is a stopping point for people who are coming off the mountain. This info is a combination of what I have learned from him as well as the web/other news sources.
So please keep in mind all of this info is unconfirmed and second-hand.
Cliffhanger restaurant. Word is there this is a major staging area and firefighters are trying to keep the fire down below the ridgeline. I just read on another message board (8:15pm PST) that there have been a few recent flare-ups in this area.
Downtown Crestline. I just called Goodwins Market and their answering machine is still picking up so I take that as a good sign.
Top-town. My dad reported that a recent evacuee from Sky Forest drive had just lost their home in that area. I'm sorry I don't know the exact address.
VOE. There were reports earlier that the fire was close to Johnny's Market. My dad recently (about 2pm) spoke to the owner of the store next to Johnny's and she said the stores in that area were still OK.
Rim of the World High. News reports still have the fire about 0.75 miles below the ridgeline.
That's most of what I know. Hope it helps. If I hear of anything to add to the group, I'll let folks know.

That would be great! Where did you hear that about the 150 engines? I'm looking for any hopeful information.

Thanks, everyone, for all of the good info. and thanks, webmaster, whoever you are, for this board. One thing to keep in mind re: "answering machines" - Many people and businesses now have voice mail, so the fact that it is 'picked up' does not necessarily reflect on whether or not the building is still standing. The message is from a different area. I don't want to bring anyone down, but don't want false hope, either. God bless all of you -

For those of you out of the area here are come pics from local LA TV showing the Crestline area. At this time... just before sunset, the fire was about 1 mile from Lake Gregory. The fire department was trying to hold the fire at Hwy 18. crestline.sgds.com/
