My Mother-In-Law's house is near the corner of Park & Pioneer Camp. Has anyone been around there recently. She is extremely worried about it. (It's all she has.) On Park, 3rd. house up on the left. Any help/info. is appreciated. Also, Thanks to the ones who are still up there letting some information out. You have no idea how many people you are assisting.

Last info I had yesterday was that downtown was still okay and that the fire had stayed up on the rim (5:30 Tuesday night).
The fire today, however (as of my 8am check), is coming around north of the town by Silverwood and with winds blowing from the north its very scary for Crestline.
I live on Straight Way and am as equally worried as your mother is. The fire has come within 3/4 of a mile from our area downtown from the south side, but that is still a fair distance. And with the fire by Arrowhead we have had fire (from a reference point of being by the Post Office in downtown Crestline) in the south, south-west, west, north-west, and south-east of Downtown Crestline- but NOT blanketing the downtown.
This all sounds really bad (and if you watch the news they make it out to sound like WW3), but keep hope and keep in mind that the weather could change and since it is daylight air tankers can fly and do water drops now. I am trying to be as optimistic as possible.
My advice is to get ahold of a topographic map of Southern California (I got one by chance at Kmart of all places last week for $20) and a Thomas Bros guide and follow where the fires have been reported. REI is also another great source for maps. You can go there and print out a detailed topo map of whatever area you want for under $10 dollars. They also sell hiking maps of many areas.
If you just listen to the news you won't learn anything until the fire has passed through that area. At least by referencing maps you can get an idea of where the fires really are without the sensationalism that is portrayed in the news coverage. Also- many of the news reports are not distinguishing between Toptown crestline, Downtown crestline, VOE, CPP, or even the Silverwood area.
good luck and keep hope. -ashley

Does anyone know what is happening in Hesperia? Has the fire extended north of Ranchero Rd at the cross-street I Street? My daughter left her home, but it was not on the manditory evacuation . www.ci.hesperia.ca.us/
